CTR have been working on, SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) RFID solutions for several years and currently produce readers and transponders working at 2.45GHz. CTR? SAW technology is also able to work on-metal and through strong electric and magnetic fields, under extreme pressure and is resistant to radiation. Read ranges can be greater than most CMOS type devices even on metal surfaces. Not only can it give a unique ID it can also (transponder dependant) give temperature.
